Persepolis is one of the greatest wonders of the ancient world

A world of ancient mystery is located in Iran, with some sites dating back over 7,000 years, far before the civilization of the Persian Empire and its capital, Persepolis.

Persepolis does not need to be introduced. The ingenious masterpiece of 2500 years is the icon of the glorious royal history of Iran. It was built by order of Cyrus the Great as the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid dynasty of Iran. The ruins were declared World Heritage Site in 1979. The entrance of the complex is formed by a two-ramp stairway composed of 110 rather wide and short steps. On top of the stairways is the main entrance or “The Great Gate”, marked by two statues of a bull with a human head and a pair of wings. There are two exits, one to the south and the other to the east. The south exit or gate connects to the Apadana Palace. Then we will have lunch.

Necropolis: the impressive legacy of the Achaemenid Empire

Necropolis is the magnificent burial place of the Achaemenid kings. It is also composed of 7 rock reliefs dating back to the Sassanid and Elam dynasties. The most famous shows the Sassanid King Shapur I on horseback, with the Roman Emperor Valerian bowing before him to submissions.

In the same direction as the historical site of Naghsh-e-Rajab and at the termination of the Haji-Abad Mountain, there are many historical ruins belonging to the Achaemanian, Elamite and Sassanian periods. These sites include: The stone carvings on the lower slopes (Sassanian), tombs of the Achaemanian Kings on the top of the hill and the square-shaped monument (Zoroastrian inscription) on the right side. This complex no doubt is a major tourist attraction site specially for those interested in archaeology and history.

After we will visit the glorious Pasargadae at the end of glorious persepolis tour. Pasargadae was the first dynastic capital of the Achaemenid Empire, founded by Cyrus II the Great, in Pars, homeland of the Persians, in the 6th century BC. Its palaces, gardens and the mausoleum of Cyrus are outstanding examples of the first phase of royal Achaemenid art and architecture and exceptional testimonies of Persian civilization. Particularly noteworthy vestiges in the 160-ha site include: the Mausoleum of Cyrus II; Tall-e Takht, a fortified terrace; and a royal ensemble of gatehouse, audience hall, residential palace and gardens. Pasargadae was the capital of the first great multicultural empire in Western Asia. Spanning the Eastern Mediterranean and Egypt to the Hindus River, it is considered to be the first empire that respected the cultural diversity of its different peoples. This was reflected in Achaemenid architecture, a synthetic representation of different cultures.

There is no doubt that Pasargadae represents the ancient capital of the Achaemenians, and is authentic in terms of its location and setting, materials and substance, and forms and design. The setting of Pasargadae has undergone no change over the course of time, and the site is part of an agricultural landscape that continues to be cultivated.
