Qazvin

One of the largest city that was an ancient capital in the Safavid dynasty and also nowadays is known as the calligraphy capital of Iran is Qazvin. It is one of the big cities in Iran, is located in 130 km west of Tehran in the height of 1278 meters above the sea level which surrounded by Alborz Mountain with beautiful natural landscapes in the north and partly even plain in the South and East.

History

The ancient ruler Shapur II also known as Shapur II the great, found the city of Qazvin. It happened during 3rd Century AD in Sassanian Period. It was the capital of ancient Persian Empire for a brief period of time. After many years, other governors created military and economic bases in the city.

Agha Moḥammed Khan of the Qajar dynasty established the city of Qazvin about 1796 as a major base for foreign trade with the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and Asia Minor. Different governors and rulers have considered the importance of the area. For example, during the rule of the Medes, this city was one of the major points in the country. At that time, “Mag Bito” fortress, located in the southwest of this city, was under the reign of Hanna Syroka, one of the Median governors.
