Ameri House

One of the good examples of architecture and the large historical house in Kashan that goes back to the Zand era is House of Ameri family, that is known as Ameri House. This house was built for Agha 'Ameri, the governor of Kashan, who was responsible for maintaining the security of the route between Tehran and Kerman.

Description

The House is the largest historical house in Iran that has the highest wind catcher among other wind catchers of Kashan’s houses. House of Ameri has been bequeathed to the private sector and it is currently used as the biggest traditional house-hotel in Iran.

This house has been considered one of several large spectacular old houses in Kashan. Ameri House has 85 rooms, and several courtyards. This house covers an area of nearly 9,000 square meters. Despite widespread building area, the house has coordinately been built and exactly been designed. It has one private bathroom for men and one for women.


History

The house was built in the second half of the 18th century during the reign of Zand dynasty. It was meant for Agha Ameri, the governor of Kashan, and his family. In the end of the 18th century this historical house was destroyed by a series of massive earthquakes and in the 19th century was rebuilt like other houses in the city. Till 1999, the state of Ameri House deteriorated badly. With spending several million dollars and 15 years of work, the house was restored and turned partly into a 5-star hotel, partly into a public museum. Now it is protected by Iran Cultural Heritage Organization.

 

Architecture of Ameri House

The unique and magnificent architecture if the Ameries structures such as fascinating decorations, porches, ponds, courts and gardens make them spectacular edifice. The materials used in the buildings include bricks for construction of the main structure, mud and straw for insulation and facade, gypsum for decoration facade and interior, mirrors for making inner spaces more beautiful, thick wooden doors for protection.

 

Opening hours

The opening hours of this historical house are from 9.00 am to 07.00 pm. This house has a museum and several halls to visit, souvenirs and handicrafts shops and a traditional restaurant and tea house. In fact, most of Kashan's historical buildings are located on Alavi stree, which can all be visited within a day.
