Nasir ol molk Mosque

There are numerous mosques all around the world. Each has a design of its own. One such mosque, that is pink colour, which is Nasir ol molk Mosque in Shiraz, Iran. This mosque is so beautiful that when the light shines through its windows you will feel like you are in a rainbow.

History

This mosque also known as the Pink Mosque is an elegant piece of art and architecture that belongs to the 19th century. It is a colorful mosque that was built during Qajar dynasty. The mosque takes its name from one of the Qajar rules -Mirza Hasan Ali Nasir ol Molk- who ordered to construct the mosque.

Mohammad Hasan-e-Memar and Mohammad Reza Kashi-saz were the professional designers of Nasir ol molk Mosque. The constructions of the mosque kasted from 1876 to 1888. Pink mosque is the combination of art and architecture that attracts tourists who travel to Iran.


Pink Mosque

It is one of the most unique and different mosques in Iran. The mosque is famous for its colored glasses and its tiles are unique in their kind. This mosque is called by many different names. Mostly known as the “Pink Mosque” because its tiles are beautifully decorated with a pre-eminently pinkish rose color, it is also called the “Mosque of colors,” the “Rainbow Mosque” or the “Kaleidoscope Mosque”.


Prayer Hall

The western prayer hall is the most beautiful part of the mosque. It’s where you can see the most eye-catching features. When the sunlight shines through the colorful glasses, and reflexes it on Blue Mosaics, make a dazzling view inside this mosque. You can see the light and worship intertwining in this place. with the sunrise and colours dance throughout the day, this mosque becomes alive again. It reflects on the ground, walls, the arches and the towering spires. It also reflects on the visitors as if a bail of color is spread on everything.

Western prayer hall has 12 carved columns, Colorful tiles in the ceiling and walls, and stained glass windows. It has seven wooden doors with stained glass too. The Eastern prayer hall is not as beautiful as the western one.


Architecture

There are many places in Iran, where you will be amazed by the beauty of architecture and especially design of the roofs. There are many traditional elements in Nasir ol Molk Mosque architecture.

Don’t miss the fine muqarnas in the Entrance portal ofthe Mosque. Also, in the northern iwan there is an arch known as “Morvarid” designed with fine Muqarnas. In the second floor, on the both sides of the arch you can see amazing colored tiles on the walls.

 

Opening hours

This old mosque is open for visitors in spring, summer time from 08.30 am to 21.30 pm and in autumn, winter time from 07.30 am to 20.30 pm (every day). It is best visited in the early morning, when the light streams inside through seven stained-glass doors, and falls in colorful patches against the interior.
