Negarestan Garden Tehran

Tehran metropolitan city is home to many museums, parks, historic houses and mansions, mosques. One of the significant historical and cultural sites of Tehran is Negarestan Garden which is located in the city center. The garden is a must-see place for tourists, who find interest in the history of Iran cultural development.

History

This octagonal garden was built in 1807 by Fath-Ali Shah Qajar in Zandieh dynasty architecture style and it was designed by Ali Akbar Baghban. It was the first Iranian academic center for teacher training. During the reign of Mozaffar ad-Din, Agriculture school, school of fine arts, and Religious school were established in this garden. Furthermore, a library was founded under the supervision of Parvin E'tesami (20th-century Persian poet of Iran) in 1936. Besides, it is said that Professor Mahmoud Hesabi installed the first meteorological instrument there to teach physics to the students.

Being located in the city center,one of the must-see place for tourists is Negarestan Garden of Tehran, who find interest in the history of Iran cultural development. Revival of artistic memories of Tehran and cultural and historical places has taken a satisfactory momentum in recent years. In pursuance of this policy the garden, a Qajar era monument in Baharestan Square of Tehran, has been converted into a museum. According to Shahrnevesht, the garden in the age of Qajar Dynasty had been turned into a school for fine industries and was effective in revival and promulgation of arts such as painting, sculpturing, etc.


Negarestan Museum

After so many years this garden change into a museum. by Tehran Beautification Organization with the cooperation of Tehran University. It exhibits the paintings of Kamal-ol Molk school. In Negarestan museum there are 120 artworks who created by Kamal-ol Molk and a number of his students who graduated from Tehran School of Fine Arts.


Architecture

Since the mansion was decorated by the most prominent painters' works, it was named as Negarestan, literally meaning a place encompassing many pictures. The garden is amazing, beautiful aged trees all around the garden with a nice pool in the center covered by Water lotus flowers. There is two main building inside the garden: hall of Delgosha and hall of Ghalamdan, which are so nice and are ornamented with mirrors.

At the corner of Negarestan Garden there is a beautiful cafe named cafe Tehroon which you can’t miss after visiting the museum. It has a very pleasant environment, variety type of cold and hot drinks and also traditional menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Opening hours

This garden is open for visitors on every day from 9:00 a.m. to 22:00 p.m. except public mourning holidays. As well as, museums is open for visitors on every day from 9:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m.. Also, restaurant is open for visitors on every day from 9:00 a.m. to 22:00 p.m..
