History

The Gate was first built during the reign of ‘Adud ad-Dawla. By the time of the Zand dynasty, it had sustained a lot of damage, so it was restored and a small room on top was added, in which were kept hand-written Qurans by Sultan Ibrahim Bin Shahrukh Gurekani.

This gate in Shiraz was made by the command of Azdo- dole Dailami. The Property of Quran Gate, is for the Quran, which was ordered by the Amir to allow passengers to safely pass through it. Passing from under Quran before taking a departure to another destination on a journey is something Muslims always do and so it is a time-honored tradition in Iran.

Architecture

The structure of this gate, like most of the gates of Iran, is decorated with verses of the Holy Quran. Quran is kept in the small room above the gate with delicate latticework on its windows. The Quran is currently in the Pars Shiraz Museum. There are also colorful tiling on the structure of the gate that keeps it really eye-catching.

Based on the testimonials of the Qurans gate of Karim Khan Zand, and the images retrieved by Zaki Khan, it seems that in the past and at the upper gate there was a room that was decorated with lattice windows.
