Shazdeh Garden Kerman

One of the most fantastic historical gardens that is located about 2 kilometers distance from Mahan City and in the suburbs of Tigran Mountains is Shazdeh Garden in Kerman. It's meaning prince's garden was established in 1276 solar hijri year. This garden is one of the 13'th persian gardens, that registered in UNESCO world heritage list and it is situated on a rectangular land with an area of 5.5 hectar and has a very beautiful entrance structure. Information regarding garden is translated into 35 languages by UNESCO and it exists in UNESCO tourist map. Garden with grand trees and the streamlet which pleasant sound is heard from around the corner is like a precious diamond on desert chest. Garden edifice include the main summerhouse which is the permanent seasonal lodging of the owner at the end of the garden. House facade at the entrance of the garden is like a linear structure at the beginning of the garden and the building has two stories. The upper story has rooms for living and catering. The garden was converted into ruins several times in the history due to lack of attention and management. Though, recent kingdoms and governments have compensated for this and they have renovated many parts of the garden.

Description

This garden is green oasis lying in the center of the desert. Prince's garden is spectacular, cause of located in the desert where nothing exists but dry plains. There are different pools constructed in the garden that is sheltered with excellent trees, including a different of pine, cedar, elm, buttonwood and fruit trees which benefit from the appropriate soil, light breezes and qanat water enable such an environment in contrast to its dry surroundings. Water fountains can be seen over the land flowing from the upper ends toward lower ends on a water cascade style at the garden. These fountains look very spectacular and have been provided impetus by the natural incline of the place.

Garden was built order by Mohammad Hassan Khan, the ruler of Kerman at during Qajar dynasty. It was registered as a National Heritage Site in 1974 and as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.

These fountains are very cleverly built and are only active on the basis of height difference, slope application and no other force.

The garden is located 2 km from Mahan city and 35 km from the center of Kerman on the slopes of Tighan Mountains. Access to it will be possible through the Kerman Bam road and a 25-kilometer route.
