Tomb of Ferdowsi

One of the most famous attraction in Mashhad is the tomb of Abul Qasim Ferdowsi, which is located in the middle of a landscaped garden 20 kilometers north of city. Tomb of Ferdowsi is the great monument, that was designed and refurbished by Hooshang Seyhoun based on Hossein Lorzadeh's preliminary design with some modifications in its dimensions, size, and decorations. The current building of the mausoleum was opened in 1934 simultaneously with Ferdowsi Millenary Celebration.

Description

This famous persian poet spend thirty years of his life writing this masterpiece which is firmly believed that it was because of this work that Farsi language was saved from demise and oblivion. This is why the Iranians have named Ferdowsi the savior of Farsi language.

May 14 is celebrated as "Ferdowsi Day" in Iran. Every year on this day, Tomb of Ferdowsi is pilgrimaged and Shahnameh commemoration is celebrated at universities and research institutes. This tomb is considered as one of the most honorable cultural attractions of Iran, which is located in northeastern holy city of Mashhad in Toos garden. Abol'qasim Ferdowsi of Toos is the most prominent epic poet of Iran who is also regarded very highly on a global scale. The literary masterpiece of Ferdowsi is called Shaah'nameh or the book of kings and is actually the longest epic poem in the entire world.

 

About birth place of Ferdowsi

Tous is a city located on the north side of Mashhad. It is where one of the most important poets of Iran has been born: Hakim Abolqasem Ferdowsi, who is so well-known because of his masterpiece “Shahnameh”. Ferdowsi had a great impact on Persian literature and culture. Therefore, he is so respectful between Iranian people. However, since this poet and his book are well-known all around the world, most of the people around the world respect this man. Hence, his mausoleum can be a place for the lovers of “Shahnameh” to meet this man and admire his work. As Mausoleum of Ferdowsi is just 30 km away from Mashhad city, it is considered as one of the tourist attractions in Mashhad.
