Zanjan Jame Mosque

Being an Islamic country, there are a number of mosques with a combination of symmetry, geometric designs and vibrant colors in the country. Zanjan Jame Mosque with four porches is one of the important and elegant mosques in Zanjan that catches everyone’s eyes. It is also known as Seyyed Mosque and Sultani Mosque that is the grand and congregational Jame Mosque of Zanjan city.

Description

This mosque was built in 1242 Hijri by a person called Abdollah Mirza Dara in Fatali shah Qajar dynasty. This mosque have been accompanied by a school that were built in the thirteenth Hijri century by one of the sons of Fathali Shah Qajar named Abdollah Mirza Dara who was one of the disciples of Ayat ollah Seyyed Mohammad Mojtahed Sardani. The mosque is situated in the old part of the city and was constructed in 1826 during the Qajar era.

Each and every single part of the mosque manifests the art and skills of master Iranian artists. Zanjan Jame Mosque was registered in the list of Iran’s national monuments on 10th of Ordibehesht 1342 with registration number 1056. In recent years, the chambers surrounding the courtyard and the northern and eastern Ivan have been restored by Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization and parts of the building's collapsed tile- work has been rebuilt.


 

Architecture of Zanjan Jame Mosque

The mosque contains four iwans on the sides of a large open court. The porches of the mosque are symmetrical. Each and every single part of the mosque manifests the art and skills of master Iranian artists. The ceilings of iwans have been beautified by ornate Muqarnas, a form of decorating arches, some of which are lost. Chambers are graced with eye-catching ceilings and arches. The multiple chambers catch sun rays and create a bright atmosphere inside.
